An Absecon man arrested Friday in possession of stolen items may be linked to a series of break-ins in the past month, police said.

A patrol officer stopped a suspicious person shining a flashlight into vehicle windows on North Shore Road in Absecon about 4:15 a.m.

The man, Eric M. Ireland, 25, was found to be in possession of “numerous stolen items” and was taken into custody, police said.

Among the items found were a cellphone, a large number of coins, eye glasses, jewelry, a wallet and cash.

Ireland was later connected to a series of vehicle burglaries along Berkeley Avenue, East Church Street, Shady Lane, North Shore Road and Spruce Street, police said. In one case, a victim observed someone inside her vehicle Thursday on Seaside Avenue.

Many items were returned to their owners. Police charged Ireland with several counts of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was being held Saturday in the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Ireland was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with several counts of burglary and theft related to similar incidents Oct. 3, police said. Police believe Ireland had an accomplice that night.

Absecon police ask anyone with missing property from either time period to report the incident.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity. Anyone with information is asked to call 609-641-0667.
