For the sixth time in less than three months, Vineland resident Anderson Sotomayor has been charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
Sotomayor was arrested about 7 p.m. Thursday near Seventh Street and Chestnut Avenue.
Police said they stopped Sotomayor for a motor vehicle violation.
“When they did that, he started discarding some alcoholic beverage out of the vehicle window,” said Lt. Matthew Finley. “They got him out of the vehicle. He was intoxicated again. They placed him under arrest, brought him into the station. He, of course, refused (to take a breath test) again.”
Finley said there was no warrant out for Sotomayor’s arrest.
“The previous reports by some of the Philadelphia stations that he had a warrant were false,” he said. “He did have a failure to appear today, but it was for a status conference. He is represented by an attorney, so no warrant was issued.”
Finley said Sotomayor is being held without bail.
“My platoon, 2nd Platoon, I believe has effected five of his six arrests,” he said. “We did make contact with a Superior Court judge and had his bail revoked.”
Sotomayor is lodged in the Cumberland County jail. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breath test.
On Monday, he was released on $20,000 bail. He had been jailed after he was arrested May 16, at which time police said Sotomayor was illegally in possession of the painkiller oxycodone.
