The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers allocated about $122 million for flood mitigation, beach nourishment, environmental restoration and waterway navigation projects that will impact portions of Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties.
The 2013 Corps plan’s largest impact to the region is in Cape May. Construction projects total over $8 million from the Cape May Inlet to Lower Township, the Great Egg Harbor Inlet to Peck’s Beach- which will cost almost $7.5 million of the total- and Lower Cape May Meadows in Cape May Point.
Atlantic County construction projects will total $129,740 for Brigantine and Absecon Island spanning from the Brigantine Inlet to the Great Egg Harbor Inlet. Ocean County will cost about $598,800 for Barnegat Inlet to Little Egg Harbor Inlet along Long Beach Island.
