NORTH WILDWOOD - Autopsy results confirmed Thursday that a 27-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl drowned in the Hereford Inlet this week.

Police said the autopsies on Jamilah Watkins, 27, of South Carolina, and Shayne Hart, of Middletown, Conn., were performed Thursday by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

Watkins and Hart, members of the same extended family, were swimming in the inlet just before 6 p.m. when they began to struggle. Witnesses called 911, but emergency personnel were not able to save them.

Beach Patrol Chief Tony Cavalier urged swimmers not to go into the water when the lifeguards are off-duty and he pointed to the two deaths as an example of what can happen when swimmers go into unprotected waters.
