GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - Police arrested a man Saturday evening for an alleged armed robbery of the MediCap Pharmacy on Jimmie Leeds Road, Detective Sgt. Paul Dooner said.

Stephen J. Vitkow, 36, of Galloway Township, was charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, and possession of OxyContin and Alprazolam. Police say Vitkow attempted to rob the store at about 4 p.m. Saturday, saying he had a gun and demanding the prescription medication. He was given an undisclosed amount of medication and fled to a purple Toyota in an adjacent parking lot, Dooner said. No weapon was recovered at the scene.

Police converged on the vehicle at Jimmie Leeds between Second and Fourth avenues, and Vitkow was arrested after a brief struggle, Dooner said.

Vitkow was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment of a wrist injry suffered during the arrest, after which he was lodged in the Atlantic County Jail on $150,000 cash bail.

Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Christopher McGinty at 609-652-3705, ext. 325.

  What a silly idea… Just give them what they want and to heck with dummy bottles… Just give them what they want and arrest them later… the last thing you need is a worker lying to one of these perpetrators for whatever silly reason… Give them what they want and let the police deal with them… No heroics by amateurs means less bodies…

  Banks have exploding dye packs to help thwart robbers. Wouldn't it be easy to just have a few dummy bottles of popular high theft demand pharmaceuticals on hand to give robbers. Placebo type sugar pills in realistic looking Vicodan, Xanax, etc, containers would have these addicts wondering where their "buzz" went when they popped them later on!
