A 16-year-old boy shot in the back Friday remains in stable but guarded condition following emergency surgery over the weekend, Pleasantville police spokesman Capt. Rocky Melendez said.

Police have not spoken with the boy since the shooting because he has been medicated, Melendez said.

Police believe he was inside a car that was shot several times near Iowa and Leeds avenues about 4:15 p.m.

The vehicle's other occupants fled the car near Iowa and Pacific avenues. An unknown driver gave the boy a ride to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Melendez said anyone with information should call Detective Anthony Gould during the day and Detective Adam Brownlee at night at 609-484-3654. Otherwise, people can call Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234 or 800-658-8477. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of as much as $1,000 for information that leads to arrests and indictments.
