MILLVILLE - A 43-year-old man suffered widespread burns Sunday night when a gas can exploded at a backyard barbecue, police said.
The victim told police he was moving the can away from a fire pit on the 600 block of Buck Street at about 7:30 p.m. when it blew up, Sgt. Ross Hoffman said.
Police are withholding the man's name, pending notification of his family and news of his medical condition. He was conscious and speaking clearly when flown to Crozer-Chester Medical Center's burn unit in Upland, Pa., Hoffman said.
No one else was injured. Other people were inside the house, Hoffman said, but the victim was alone in the yard.
