ATLANTIC CITY — The Atlantic County prosecutor's office continues to investigate the shooting death of 61-year-old Joyce McKinnon.
At this point, her killer remains at large.
McKinnon, a 61-year-old cocktail waitress, was shot dead last week inside her Venice Park home in the 1900 block of North Michigan Avenue.
She shared that home with her daughter's boyfriend, Sellers Ingram, 38 -- who was arrested and jailed one day earlier for the shooting death of Jamal David Smith, 19.
Investigators and the Atlantic County prosecutor have not commented on how the crimes may be linked.
Smith’s funeral service was held in Pleasantville Monday.
During the ceremony, the parking lot and streets surrounding the church were teeming with police cars, marked and unmarked.
Police cars converged behind a football field a block away and at the four-way stop sign in front of the church. Occasionally, the officers rolled down their car windows to ask people questions.
Meanwhile, people hugged and wore clothing adorned with Smith’s smiling face and chatted about his life.
The teen known as “Mal” enjoyed music and singing. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in June and was attending Harris School of Business in Linwood.
Smith was found shot near the Sassafras Run Apartments in Pleasantville at about 12:30 a.m. Dec. 8. Two days later, Ingram was charged with his slaying. The next day, McKinnon, a well-liked cocktail server at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, was fatally shot at home.
Neighbors in her quiet residential area Saturday declined to speak with a reporter about her death, citing concerns about possible retribution.
At the time McKinnon was killed, Ingram was incarcerated in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he remains on $1.5 million bail.
Ingram previously served eight years in prison on a weapons charge and was released in September 2008.
In 1999, Ingram was arrested after he and two others allegedly robbed and pistol-whipped a man in Pleasantville, according to a story in The Press of Atlantic City at the time. Ingram tried to flee the scene on a bicycle, but was caught by police, who said they found him in possession of a semi-automatic handgun.
