BRIDGETON — Cumberland County authorities are searching for two men who fled the scene following a fiery collision that killed a motorcyclist Friday evening in Bridgeton.

The motorcyclist, whom police identified as Christopher Woodward, 23, of Bridgeton, was hit at 6 p.m at North Laurel and Charles streets by a truck that ran through a stop sign on Charles Street, police Sgt. John Sloboda said.

Both the motorcycle and truck were caught fire in what Sloboda described as “an ugly mess.” A neighbor and police pulled the motorcyclist away from the wreckage after the bike’s gas tank exploded, he said.

The driver of the truck and a passenger ran from the scene. They remained at large Saturday. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office obtained a search warrant for the truck, which had South Carolina license plates but it was not reported stolen, Sloboda said.
