ATLANTIC CITY - A young man was shot and killed early this morning in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue, police confirmed.

Atlantic City Police declined to release further details and deferred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Personnel there did not immediately respond to calls seeking more information.

Two groups of community activists held an anti-violence walk and vigil Friday night that started three blocks from the site of the shooting and proceeded half a mile through the Back Maryland neighborhood to the Stanley Holmes Village public housing development.

About 80 people attended the first annual event coordinated by local chapters of National Action Network and the National Hook-Up of Black Women.
