NORTHFIELD - Four people were arrested this week after police said they allegedly kidnapped and beat a 19-year-old Egg Harbor Township man, trying to get him to give them money.
Police said 18-year-old Alexander Luddeni invited the victim to the basement of his home on the 1900 block of Zion Road in Northfield about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The other three were either present at the home or arrived shortly thereafter, police Chief Bob James said. All four suspects knew each other, James said.
Police said the victim, whom police would not identify, was held against his will for about 15 minutes while his captors beat him with brass knuckles and a baseball bat. James said the victim told his captors he had money at his home, so they led him outside to a waiting vehicle.
Once outside, police said, the victim broke free and briefly escaped, and officers were called to a subsequent assault in progress. Police said the victim was injured but refused medical treatment.
Police later arrested Luddeni; Nicholas Olsen, 18, of Somers Point; Ryan Williamson, 19, of Northfield; and a 17-year-old male from Linwood.
All were charged with kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy, and all but the juvenile face additional theft charges, police said.
Olsen also was charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges related to the brass knuckles, while the juvenile was charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges related to a baseball bat, police said.
Luddeni and Williamson face additional drug charges, including possession, intent to distribute and intent to distribute in a school zone.
The three adults were taken to the Atlantic County Jail, where they were held on $500,000 bail each. The juvenile was taken to the Harborfields youth detention center in Egg Harbor City.
Police said their investigation was aided by Pleasantville police Officer Michael Millard and his canine partner, Mako, who police said found drugs in a vehicle and in the residence.
The incident remains under investigation, and police asked that anyone with information regarding the incident call Northfield Detective Sgt. Steve Steinecke or Detective William Ward at 609-641-3122.
