Atlantic City property owners who are 65 or older are eligible for a $500 credit on their municipal property taxes, the mayor announced Thursday.

"The $500 credit will provide property-tax relief and help to ease the burden for our seniors," Mayor Lorenzo Langford said.

The credit is available to qualified Atlantic City residents of owner-occupied primary homes.

Eligible senior citizens must file a Municipal Senior Citizen Property Tax Relief Claim Form with the Tax Assessor's Office, City Hall, Room 606, 1301 Bacharach Blvd.

Proof of age is required, along with a copy of one of the following: a New Jersey state income tax return, state Homestead Benefit application or state property-tax reimbursement "Senior Freeze" application.

To receive the tax credit this year, forms must be submitted by May 31. Those submitted after that will be given out next year.
