Twenty-nine people were arrested and charged with prostitution Friday as part of an operation by the Atlantic City Police Department.

Police said that members of the department’s Special Investigations Section participated in and hosted the FBI’s national initiative titled “Operation Cross Country VI.”

Also participating in the operation were members of the FBI’s Innocence Lost Task Force, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey Department of Human Services Police and New Jersey State Police.

The Innocence Lost National Initiative targets individuals or groups that traffic minors for the purpose of prostitution. During the past week, the FBI, along with its state and local partners, have participated in the initiative in cities across the United States.

The ACPD’s Special Investigations Section operation on Friday night led to the arrest of 29 individuals for engaging in prostitution.

“The Atlantic City Police Department is committed to hosting these types of operations and they will continue throughout the year,” Atlantic City Police Lt. James Sarkos said.
