Atlantic City police took time out Sunday morning to deliver Christmas gifts to two families displaced by Hurricane Sandy.

PBA members donate toys every Christmas, but focused this year on people affected by the storm.

“So many people needed this. Every patrolman knows the story of a family they’ve run into who was affected,” PBA President Paul Barbere said. “So many people were affected by the storm, it was impossible to pick.”

So they deferred to the Atlantic City School District to choose two families in need for nine children ages 4 to 17, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.

About a dozen officers — in uniform, festive garb or a combination — loaded bikes into a pickup and overflowing gift bags into squad cars Sunday.

The families — like hundreds of others in the resort — are staying with other relatives offshore.
