ATLANTIC CITY — Police are looking for a man who stole an ambulance just before 2:40 a.m. Sunday at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.

The man allegedly drove off in the ambulance, which was at the emergency room entrance on the Ohio Avenue side of the hospital complex, while emergency medical personnel were inside the hospital, Atlantic City police Detective Edward Riege said.

GPS installed in the ambulance tracked it as the suspect drove more than 40 miles to Larry’s Bar in Millville, where he stopped before abandoning the vehicle nearby, according to a police statement.

Atlantic City officers notified Millville police, who found the ambulance but not the man who drove it there.

Exceptional Medical Transport had the ambulance back by 11 a.m. Sunday, Riegel said.

“We’ve had city vehicles taken — I don’t know about an ambulance,” said Riegel, a 20-year department veteran.

Millville police and Exceptional Medical Transport representatives did not return calls seeking more information.

Officials ask that anyone with information call Atlantic City police Detective Tom Holton at 609-347-5766 or email him at tholton@acpolice.org
