A sting operation in Avalon resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old Philadelphia woman who allegedly stole a bike early Friday morning.

Avalon Special Officers Scott Bertoldi and Michael Mangiaracina placed a bike on Ocean Drive at 1:43 a.m. and Maura Heenan allegedly picked it up and rode away, police said. She was arrested several blocks away and charged with theft of movable property.

She was released pending a court date.

The Avalon Police Department warns it will crack down on thefts and reminds residents to protect their property with locks or storage in secure buildings.
