The memory of Linwood veterans advocate April Kauffman will be kept alive with the presentation of the first April Christine Kauffman Award today.

The award will be presented to the person “who best exemplifies the drive she had before her death,” Atlantic County Veterans Services Officer Bob Frolow said.

Kauffman, who helped lead efforts such as expanding a Veterans Administration program at Shore Medical Center, was slain at her home in May 2012. No arrests have been made in the killing.

Kauffman’s daughter Kim Pack will present the award to an as-yet-unnamed advocate during a ceremony 1 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 352 in Somers Point.

As a lead-in to the ceremony, Pack will be escorted from her Linwood home by the motorcycle group American Legion Riders.

A separate award in Kauffman’s honor, the April Kauffman Veterans Advocacy Award, was awarded by Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in June to Donna Clementoni, public relations and communications coordinator for The Judge Group, and veterans advocate Lee Darby.
