Two Barnegat police officers resuscitated a newborn infant that was just delivered Tuesday morning.

Officers Michael Moore and Vincent Damiano responded to a residence on Pulaski Drive at 11 a.m. after Elizabeth Whitehead, 21, gave birth in her front lawn, police said.

The officers arrived moments after the baby had been delivered and had no pulse and was not breathing, police said.

They immediately conducted CPR and then assisted paramedics who took the baby to Southern Ocean Medical Center, police said.

The newborn eventually developed a stable heart rhythm and normal breathing during the transport to the hospital, police said.

Police said the infant was stabilized and then transferred to Jersey Shore Medical Center. The mother was treated and released at Southern Ocean Medical Center.
