ATLANTIC CITY – Police said a body found Sunday morning in Penrose Avenue Canal is that of a local man missing since April 6.
Authorities will now try to determine the cause of death for 49-year-old Patrick Jacobs, of the 1500 block of North Ohio Avenue, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
Police investigators who attended Sunday’s autopsy said there was no sign of foul play or external trauma to the body, McMenamin said. An exact cause of death is pending further medical studies, she said.
Police said a woman walking her pet in the 1800 block of Horace Bryant Drive called them at 8:21 a.m. and said she saw what she believed to be a body floating in the water. Authorities went to the scene and found the body partially in the marsh, they said.
The body was taken to the Shore Medical Center in Somers Point for an autopsy. The autopsy and work by investigators revealed that the body was Jacobs, McMenamin said.
Jacobs’ last contact involved a cellphone conversation he had with a friend at about 11 p.m. April 6, police said.
