BRIDGETON – A city man drove his car into the porch of a Cottage Street home here on Sunday while allegedly fleeing from police.
Police state in a report that Danuell Cosby later told them he meant to stop his car, but could not do so after “something in the vehicle broke” and prevented him from coming to a halt.
They also reporting finding marijuana which Cosby allegedly said he intended to use at a Super Bowl party later that day.
Cosby, 35, of Bridgeton Villas, is charged with single counts of eluding police in a motor vehicle, aggravated assault on police, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and multiple motor vehicle offenses, including driving with a suspended license. He was placed in the Cumberland County jail here on $25,000 bail.
According to authorities here, Cosby fled from a pursuing police cruiser after police tried to stop him for having an invalid inspection sticker. Cosby eventually crashed into the porch of the Cottage Avenue home, causing extensive damage to the house and his Chevrolet Trailblazer, they said. No one was in the house when the collision occurred, they said.
Police said they had to wrestle Cosby to the ground and spray him with a chemical irritant when he allegedly assumed a “fighting stance” upon seeing authorities.
Police said they found a bag of marijuana on the ground near Cosby, and controlled dangerous substance packaging materials which Cosby allegedly had on his person.
