BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP — A former Galloway Township clerk who settled an employment-related lawsuit against Galloway Township officials for $250,000 in December 2012 and another against Middle Township for $35,000 in February 2013, is now a temporary secretary for Buena Vista Township.
Lisa Tilton started her work in the mayor’s office and Planning Board office in early January after being chosen from candidates who responded to an advertisement in late 2013, Mayor Chuck Chiarello said.
“We are very pleased and happy with her work level,” Chiarello said. “In the six weeks I have worked with her she has been a professional employee and has done her job. She has had to balance multiple tasks.”
Tilton declined to comment.
Chiarello said Tilton is filling in for a former secretary in the mayor’s office who left in November and a former Planning Board secretary who left in December.
“Who around us should be able to judge, other than based on her work?” Chiarello said. “I don’t dwell on the past.”
Tilton had worked for Galloway Township for 10 years, about three of them as clerk, when she resigned in 2011 after being suspended pending removal. She later filed tort claims listing more than $6 million in damages, claiming sexual harassment, improper release of private information and other abuses.
Tilton filed a tort claim against Middle Township in November 2012 after not being selected for an open township clerk position. Public emails among township officials indicated there were reservations about even interviewing Tilton because of her legal past in Galloway.
