VINELAND – Police here have charged an Atlantic County woman with allegedly forging at least $11,000 in checks from her furniture store employer.

Police charge that Cherie A. Starn forged the checks during the two months she worked as a bookkeeper for Surrounding Furniture and Design in Northfield.

The financial discrepancies were found after Starn, 42, of the 300 block of Delaware Avenue in Buena, left the company, police said. An investigation revealed that Starn allegedly issued checks to herself and then deposited the money into her personal bank account, they said.

A police report shows the location of the incidents to be the Bank of America branch office in the 3600 block of East Landis Avenue here.

Starn was charged on Monday with theft by deception, forgery and uttering a forged instrument. She was released on a summons.

The investigation into Starn’s activities is continuing, police said.
