The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 50-year-old man from a research vessel off Cape May Saturday after he experienced symptoms of decompression sickness.

According to a Coast Guard report, the man had been diving from the research vessel. A 45-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Cape May was dispatched to the scene 23 miles off the coast after receiving a report at about 4:45 p.m.

The man, whose name was not released Sunday, was transported back to Cape May by the Coast Guard boat and then transferred to waiting emergency medical personnel.

He was taken to theĀ Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His condition was not available Sunday, but he was reported to be responsive at the time of the rescue.
