Coast Guard suspends search for missing Middle Township police officer, but State Police continue

State Police resumed their search for missing Middle Township Officer Jason Sill resumed shortly after 7 a.m. his morning.

The Coast Guard, however, have suspended their search.The Coast Guard is still assisting the New Jersey State Police by providing search patterns.

State Police Lt. Stephen Jones confirmed the search has continued after being suspended at 8:30 p.m. last night. But he did not say if crews are conducting a search or recovery for the 39 year-old Cape May Court House resident.

“We don’t label it one way or the other,” he said. “We’re searching for the missing boater.”

Sill’s 23-foot boat was found empty and adrift Monday in the ocean one mile off Wildwood.

Emergency personnel have been searching since Monday but have had no success at this point.

State Police investigators found nothing suspicious after performing a forensic evidence search on Sill’s boat, which was was found with the key in the ignition, two fishing poles still on deck, the throttle in the forward position, and the outboard engine in the water but not running.

Sill reportedly left on his boat at 9:30 a.m. Monday and the boat was found by anglers aboard another boat in the ocean at 10:45 a.m.
