VINELAND — Cumberland County officials will both recognize veterans for their military service and help other veterans find jobs at an event later this month.
The day-long second annual Military Honors Event will be held at Cumberland County College at 3322 College Drive on March 20. It begins with a Hire Our Local Heroes Job and Career Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. at the college’s Luciano Banquet Center.
The fair will bring together leading local employers and veterans, especially those making the transition from military service to the civilian workforce. Also available will be resources to help veterans with career transition, on turning a military resume into a civilian resume, and information on educational opportunities.
“Veterans make excellent employees because they respect authority, embrace responsibility and thrive in a team environmental,” said CEO Group Executive Director Fran Reilly. “Despite that fact, securing employment after military service can be a challenge, especially in today’s economy.”
The CEO group, which represents about 45 area businesses, is sponsoring the job and career fair along with the Cumberland County Office of Employment and Training and the Cumberland-Salem Workforce Investment Board.
The county will also award as many as 50 veterans with the Cumberland County Military Service Medal during a ceremony at the college’s Luciano Conference Center from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The event will follow a special flag-raising ceremony at 3 p.m.
Registration is required for the job and career fair. Veterans must provide proof of military service. Veterans or the spouse of a veteran can register by calling Gloria at 856-451-8920. Employers wishing to participate in the job and career fair can call Sherry at 856-696-8607.
Information about the service medal can be obtained through the Cumberland County Veterans Affairs and Interment Office by calling Joyce at 856-453-2166, or Diana at 856-453-2239.
All events are free.
