Third quarter gross operating profit figures for the casino industry are expected to be released today by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Beginning in the fourth quarter of last year, the industry – exclusive of newcomer Revel – has had three consecutive quarters of improving profits. However, when factoring in the startup casino and in light of a 20 percent drop in gambling revenue during October, expectations for the third quarter are low.
Unlike monthly gambling revenue reports, quarterly gross operating profits include money made from hotel stays, restaurants and other nongambling amenities. The industry draws about 30 percent of its revenue from nongambling sources.
