Police barricaded a portion of Black Horse Pike, Route 40, Saturday morning after a traffic accident damage a utility pole.

The roadblock, which begins westbound near the exit ramp to the Atlantic City Expressway, and spans until Franklin Avenue near Pleasantville, will last several hours, police estimate.

A traffic accident which occured about 6:45 a.m. Saturday resulted in a downed utility pole, leaving cable, phone and electric wires on the thoroughfare. Atlantic City police blocked off the westbound portion of the pike at 10 a.m., and Egg Harbor Township police are stationed near Franklin Avenue.

Police are requesting travelers to use alternate routes while utility crews repair the pole.
