A Pleasantville man who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal accident will face up to 10 years in prison after being charged today, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today,

Carlos Fermin, 26, is alleged to have left the scene of an accident on North Franklin Boulevard Thursday morning. Authorities said he veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a truck driven by Jose Matta, 53, of Pleasantville.

He is charged leaving the scene of a fatal accident and causing death or injury while driving without a license

Matta was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. He was pronounced dead Saturday evening.

Fermin is at Atlantic County jail on $50,000 bail. He faces between five and ten years in prison and up to $150,000 in fines if convicted.

This crash is being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Collisions Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department.
