BRIDGETON – A local man is now under indictment for the hit-and-run death of a Vineland resident who was mowing a lawn when the collision occurred, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities alleged that Ismael Lopez-Bautista was intoxicated when he struck 26-year-old Aureliano Parades on Oct. 31 at Walnut Road and South Delsea Drive in Vineland.

A grand jury sitting in the Cumberland County court house has handed up an indictment charging Lopez-Bautista, 32, of the 100 block of East Avenue, with death by auto and knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Lopez-Bautista remains in the Cumberland County jail here. Bail was set for Lopez-Bautista at $1 million during arraignment proceedings that occurred shortly after the accident.

According to authorities, the accident occurred in front of the Safe and Sound Electronics store. Parades was mowing grass when a car Lopez-Bautista was driving north on Delsea Drive struck him, they said.

Lopez-Bautista fled the accident scene and was eventually apprehended on Delsea Drive about a mile from the site, they allege.

Parades died at Inspira Medical Center Vineland from the injuries he sustained during the accident, authorities said.
