A member of Cedar Creek High School’s first-ever graduating class in June died in a motor vehicle crash Friday morning in Hamilton Township.

Police said Dillon Garth, 18, of Egg Harbor City, was driving a 2002 Ford on Route 50 near Oak Road when it ran off the road and collided with a tree at 10:10 a.m.

Route 50 was closed until the afternoon while the crash was investigated.

Garth was a member of the Class of 2013 at Cedar Creek, where he was a member of the wrestling team.

Principal James Reina said Garth was a very polite and outgoing student.

“He always had a wave, a smile and a hello for kids and adults alike,” Reina said. “One of the best things you can say about kids is they don’t only hang with a small group. He was part of a huge circle. Not just kids, but he had a positive relationship with a lot of adults, too.”

Steven Ciccariello, superintendent of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District, said the school is working to contact staff and hopes to be able to provide counseling during the weekend.

“On behalf of the Board of Education and district, we feel horrible about this and will do everything we can,” he said. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
