An Egg Harbor Township couple who previously served manslaughter sentences were arrested this month after an attack that severely injured a man in Egg Harbor Township.

Donald Gardner and Chinyere Onuba-Gardner previously served separate sentences in killings. Gardner killed a friend in 1993 in Egg Harbor Township and was released in May 2012 in Camden. Onuba-Gardner served seven years for the death of her 5-month-old son, who died of starvation in 2002.

The pair and another man, Randall Scott, are now accused in a June 28 attack inside the Courtesy Inn in the township’s Farmington section.

The victim was pistol-whipped, hit with a baseball bat and stabbed with a machete, according to the report.

The U.S. Marshall’s Task Force arrested the three July 11 at a motel on North Albany Avenue, spokesman Michael Schroeder said. Task force members include Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City police, he said.

The three are charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons offenses and parole violations.

The couple, who are married, were arrested earlier this year on gun and drug charges.

All three are being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
