An Egg Harbor Township man was killed early Thursday after being struck by a car on the Black Horse Pike.

Police said in a news release that at about 5:15 a.m., authorities responded to reports of a crash near the Tower 2001 Mobile Home Park, in the Cardiff section of the township.

Police found that a van driven by Eugene Cook, 70, of Waterford Works in Camden County, was driving east when he struck a man who had walked onto the roadway.

The man, Frank Carey, 74, of Egg Harbor Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was detoured for about 2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. Officer Kevin Devlin is investigating.
