A Cumberland County grand jury has indicted former Buena Police Chief David Sherma on charges of forgery and criminal attempt.
The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office announced the indictment Friday.
Sherma, 37, of Clayton, Gloucester County, was arrested Dec. 12 in Vineland for allegedly attempting to obtain Oxycodone with a fraudulent prescription. Sherma tried to jump over the counter and take back the fake prescription when the pharmacist told him he knew it was forged, police said.
Sherma pleaded guilty to similar charges in October in Atlantic County Superior Court. As part of the agreement, Sherma forfeited his position.
