The area will soon receive a January thaw, as temperatures are expected to increase for the next week.

Accuweather meteorologist Michael Pigott said there is a current trend of cold air from Canada moving west, which is leaving warm air over the Northeast.

The expected high today at Atlantic City International Airport is 56 degrees, which will be short of the record of 68 degrees in 2008. The highs will remain mainly in the upper 50s — expect a high of 48 on Thursday and Friday — through Tuesday, when the high could reach 60 degrees. Temperatures will then drop to a high of 40 degrees Jan. 16.

Pigott said he expects the warm trend will shift, and by the end of the month the area will have seasonal cold temperatures again.
