Car fire on Atlantic City Expressway (copy)

Traffic was slowed in the eastbound lanes of the Atlantic City Expressway near mile marker 19 around 3 p.m. Sunday as an SUV was engulfed in flames.


HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Police and firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a vehicle fire on the eastbound Atlantic City Expressway.

State Police said emergency crews were dispatched at 2:50 p.m. to mile marker 19 for an SUV on fire. Police said the driver, who was not identified, pulled over when her vehicle started smoking, and then it became fully engulfed.

There were no injuries, police said. The right lanes were closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze, police said. All lanes were open before 4 p.m., police said.

State Police and the Laureldale Volunteer Fire Company responded.
