At the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday morning, a caravan of volunteers from Quakertown, Pa., showed up with donated supplies, food and clothing for residents returning to the island.
The group of friends set up tables outside the fire department with all of the donated goods. A few held signs up for traffic on the sidewalk, advertising the help that was being offered.
"We have so much stuff over here. We have to get the word out to the public. We want people who need anything to come, whether they're in Beach Haven West, the island, Little Egg Harbor, Tuckerton. Come here, we're here to help," said Surf City Councilman Peter Hartney, who has been organizing the donation drive for the last two weeks.
