A former employee of South Jersey Gas billed the company nearly $100,000 for college classes she never attended, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Laila Milanian, 39, of Berlin, Camden County, was indicted Wednesday by an Atlantic County grand jury on theft by deception charges for submitting falsified invoices totaling $98,000 between 2010 and 2012, officials said.

Milanian was enrolled in South Jersey Industries’ tuition reimbursement program at Pennsylvania State University between the fall semester of 2010 and the spring semester of 2012, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

In that time, she allegedly submitted invoices for classes she did not attend and filled out higher reimbursement amounts than she was entitled to for classes she did attend by falsifying her grades, officials said. The program rewards higher grades with higher reimbursements.

Milanian’s bail was set at $50,000. She is not yet in custody.
