State Police said they are continuing to investigate a May 18 crash involving Freeholder John “Jack” Kelly in which a Barnegat Township man was killed.
Authorities are waiting on the results of a toxicology test on Kelly that was performed after the collision, said Trooper Christopher Kay, spokesman for the State Police.
“My understanding is that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office requested that a test be done, and Mr. Kelly submitted,” Kay said.
No charges or citations have been issued to Kelly since the accident, Kay said. Police previously said there was nothing suspicious connected to the accident and nothing criminal in nature during the investigation.
“I do not drink, and I wasn’t drinking,” Kelly said Tuesday when reached at his West Creek home Tuesday.
Kolb’s 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed with Kelly’s sport utility vehicle, police said, on Route 9 in the West Creek section of Eagleswood Township near Kelly’s Deli, which is owned by Kelly.
William D. Kolb, 24, passed a vehicle while southbound on Route 9 and then returned to his lane and his motorcycle collided with the right fender of Kelly’s SUV, according to a news release from police. Kelly was traveling north on Route 9 and was making a left turn into Kelly’s Deli, police said.
Kolb died after he was thrown from the motorcycle during the collision, police said. Funeral services were held in Barnegat last week.
Kelly has served on the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders since 1993. His freeholder term expires next year.
