MIDDLE TOWNSHIP - A fugitive from Puerto Rico, wanted for allegedly murdering an 84-year old woman in his home country, was arrested here on Thursday and awaits extradition proceedings.

The arrest of Jonathan Rodriquez-Ocasio, 25, of Fifth Street in the Rio Grande section of the township, was announced jointly by Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and police Chief Chris Leusner.

Authorities said Rodriquez-Ocasio had been living at a trailer park in Rio Grande and working in the laundry room at the Cape May Convalescent Center in Cape May Court House.

A warrant was issued for him in June 2012 by Puerto Rican authorities in connection with the murder of an elderly woman killed during a burglary.

Rodriquez-Ocasio was charged with being a fugitive from justice and held in the Cape May County jail pending extradition proceedings.

Taylor and Leusner, in a joint statement, commended the work of detectives and officers involved in an investigation that removed "a violent criminal from the streets of Cape May County."
