Shiloh Borough Mayor Harold L. “Bub” Davis Jr. died early Thursday morning at his home.

Robert Greco, chairman of the Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization, said Saturday, “We were deeply saddened when we learned of the passing of Harold Davis.”

“He always put his community first. Serving Shiloh was not about politics to him, it was truly about community service,” Greco said in an e-mail.

According to Davis’ obituary, he was serving his eighth year as mayor and had been a member of the Shiloh Borough Council since 1982.

Davis was born in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in 1966.

The mayor had worked as an office manager for Don Rogers, Inc. in Bridgeton and at the former Gentile Brothers Contractors also in Bridgeton. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam War, entering the military in September 1966 until his discharge to the Naval Reserves in November 1970.  He also later served in the Air Force Reserves.

He was a member of the League of Municipalities and had been a sitting board member on the Cumberland Development Corporation.

“Harold and his family are in our prayers,” Greco said. “While our hearts are now filled with sorrow, simply thinking about some of our conversations brings a smile to my face. Harold was a great man who will be sorely missed.”

Davis is survived by his wife Kimberly, three children, two grandchildren, and other family members.

His funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at  Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at The Parish of the Holy Cross/St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 46 Central Avenue, Bridgeton.
