A 45-year-old Galloway Township man has been charged with burglary and theft after leading police on a car chase Thursday on the Garden State Parkway, police said.

Egg Harbor Township police were called to Black Horse Auto Sales in the Cardiff section at 8:18 a.m. Thursday in reference to a burglary. The victim said the office and shop had been rifled through, items were missing and a 2003 Toyota Matrix was stolen off the lot.

Investigation at the scene by township detectives identified the suspect as William Ireland, of Galloway.

About 1 p.m., Galloway police located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit on the parkway that was assisted by State Police.

The pursuit ended near milepost 58 near Tuckerton, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Egg Harbor Township police charged Ireland with two counts of burglary, three counts of theft and criminal mischief. He was also charged with eluding by Galloway police.

He was lodged in the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
