Long Beach Township Mayor Joseph Mancini said this afternoon that the Holgate section will reopen to all residents at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

"We're opening it up. The island is getting back to normal," Mancini said.

The Holgate section was the hardest hit area during superstorm Sandy. It was here that the ocean met the bay and water rushed under oceanfront homes after breaching vulnerable dunes.

Utilities here have been shut down for as long as the area, the southernmost piece of LBI has been closed, except for a few openings for homeowners to clean and assess damage.

Over the weekend, New Jersey Natural Gas crews completed the re-pressurization of the gas main on LBI and natural gas is now available to 14,018 customers, or about 98 percent of customer meters.

Work on all domestic meters has been completed and work to remaining meters is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
