VINELAND — Eleven candidates are seeking election to four seats on the local Board of Education during November’s balloting.

Six of the candidates are seeking election to three three-year terms.

The other five candidates are running for the final year of a seat formerly held by Carlos Mercado. Mercado resigned from the Board of Education in July to be sworn in as a member of the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The candidates running for the three-year seats:

Current Board of Education member Scott English, a self-employed plumber.

Current Board of Education member R. Alan Mounier, a professor at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Brian DeWinne, a certified public accountant who served on the Board of Education from 2008-2011.

Retired district educator and coach Richard Baruffi.

Current Board of Education member Frank Bongiovanni, a retired captain from the Atlantic City Police Department and an adjunct professor at Cumberland County College. Bongiovanni in August was appointed to fill Mercado’s seat through the November election.

David Mazur, a Woodbine Developmental Center employee and former City Council candidate.

Running for the final year of Mercado’s term:

Current Board of Education member Thomas Ulrich, a captain in the city’s Police Department.

Wanda Lopez, a retired state Division of Youth and Family Services employee.

Boeing employee Eric Girone.

North Valley Avenue resident Ryan DeVito.

Geralynn Testa McCann, a retired district language arts teacher and literacy coach. She is the wife of Vineland High School South Principal Thomas McCann.

The Board of Education election will be held Nov. 5.
