A suspect charged with the murders and desecration of the remains of two men found buried in Buena Vista Township last week had his first hearing at Hudson County Central Judicial Processing Court on Thursday afternoon.
Yusuf Ibrahim, of Jersey City, was transferred to Hudson County Jail Wednesday from Atlantic County jail, where he had been held since Sunday, said Rachel Goemaat, spokeswoman for the state Attorney General's Office.
Ibrahim, 28, was not in the courtroom. He appeared before Judge Margaret Marley via a closed circuit monitor, Goemaat said. Marley advised Ibrahim of the charges against him and he completed a form for a public defender, Goemaat said.
During Thursday’s the proceeding, Marley continued Ibrahim's bail at $3 million for the two murder charges and $300,000 for the two counts of desecrating human remains, Goemaat said.
Authorities allege Ibrahim shot the two unidentified men in the chest during a dispute in a parked car in Jersey City last week and then severed their heads and hands before burying the remains at a private property on Harding Highway in Buena Vista Township.
A manhunt for Ibrahim from South Jersey to Philadelphia and northern New Jersey ensued late last week when the remains were discovered by State Troopers last Thursday. The New Jersey State Police arrested Ibrahim Sunday at an apartment in Bayonne.
