MILLVILLE — Levoy Theatre officials are putting out a casting call that does not require anyone to act.
Theater officials say they need volunteers to serve as ushers, work the concession stand and box office and help with sales, fundraising and other activities.
Volunteers are needed rather quickly: The renovated theater holds its first performance Aug. 3 with the presentation of “The Music Man.”
People interested in serving as volunteers for the Levoy can stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 23 at the Riverfront Renaissance Center For the Arts at 22 N. High Street. People can also volunteer by calling 856-327-6400 or sending an email to info@levoy.net.
“This entire project has been accomplished through the efforts of volunteer and this casting call gives everyone the opportunity to contribute, as well as participate in something exciting and valuable in our community,” said Lauren Van Embden, who chairs the Levoy Theatre Preservation Society’s board of directors.
The theater is located in the middle of the downtown business district on High Street. City officials and merchants in the area hope its opening will bring new customers to the area.
The theater is in the final stages of its $8.5 million renovation.
Some of the acts booked for the theater during the next several months include the Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay, the Chicago-based Second City comedy troupe and blues-rock artist Paul Thorn.
