A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed against a Linwood condo association by the family of Catherine McGowan, a Linwood woman stabbed to death in 2009, according to the Atlantic County Civil Court.

McGowan’s daughter Dianne Nehmad was injured in the same October 2009 attack outside McGowan’s condo at The Village at Linwood. Anthony Milano, McGowan’s neighbor, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2011 and was being held at a Trenton medical facility as of late 2012.

Nehmad filed a complaint against Milano several weeks after the attack and added The Village at Linwood Condominium Association and its property manager, Thompson Realty Co. of Atlantic City, several months later.

The complaint claimed the association and management company failed to warn or protect residents concerning Milano.

A New Jersey Law Journal article cited Nehmad’s attorney, James A. Maggs, in reporting that The Village and Thompson Realty will pay $750,000 in the settlement.

Maggs said Friday that he is currently prohibited from giving any details about the settlement.

Kennedy, Wronko & Kennedy, the attorneys for The Village and Thompson Realty, had no comment Friday.

The suit against Milano was settled in 2010 for more than $1 million, the New Jersey Law Journal reported.

Nehmad added claims against the city of Linwood and former Police Chief Jim Baker in February 2011. Linwood Solicitor James Youngblood said Nehmad’s attorneys agreed to dismiss those claims without prejudice in April 2011, after the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office indicated it would investigate the allegations made in the complaint.
