LITTLE EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Ocean County and state fire marshals investigated what was left of a home that caught fire in the Mystic Island section early Tuesday morning.

Fire departments responded to the fire in the first block of East Pimlico Road at about 5 a.m., according Mystic Island Assistant Fire Chief Bill Stenger.

No one was home at the time and no one was injured, according to Stenger.

"It took quite some time to get under control," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Ocean County fire marshal officers were on scene surveying the damage. The home is burned out completely and remained smouldering through the morning.

William Harris’ second home is next-door to the burned-out home. Police called Harris, of East Hanover, Morris County, early Tuesday morning to report the blaze. He said he came right down to check out the damage.

His siding facing the burned-out home had sustained fire damage. His fence was burned or melted completely in some places.

“The windows are broken,” he said. “Some of the shades on the inside are burned, but in the scheme of things, with what’s going on today, it’s minor.”
