LoBiondo endorses Republican Lonegan in special U.S. Senate election

U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo on Friday announced he endorsed Steve Lonegan, the Republican former mayor of Bogota, Bergen County, to replace U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-NJ.

Lautenberg died last month. The state will hold a special primary in August and a special election in October to fill Lautenberg’s seat until his term expires at the end of 2014.

LoBiondo, R-2nd, said in a statement he thinks Lonegan is the best person for the job because “New Jersey needs a conservative fighter for lower taxes, less government intrusion and pro-growth economic policies.”

LoBiondo was Lonegan’s fourth congressional endorsement, according to Lonegan’s campaign. The campaign said other local endorsements include Mark Padula, Atlantic City Republican chairman, and Mike Donohue, Cape May County Republican chairman.
