After there were fears it would take six months to restore gas service on Long Beach Island, New Jersey Natural Gas announced this afternoon that the utility is almost finished with restoration service across LBI's 18 miles in the wake of superstorm Sandy.

In the most ravaged section of the island, the Long Beach Township section of Holgate, gas re-pressurization is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Meters have been repaired and replaced on the entire northern end of the island and gas is now available to 8,448 meters.

The utility is now completing meter work on the southern end of the island, and expect to complete all rebuilds by Monday. Wednesday, New Jersey Natural Gas will continue work on the island's service restoration plan in the Holgate section, from Grosser Street to the southern tip of the island.
