On Sunday, Long Beach Township Mayor Joseph Mancini was calling on all oceanfront homeowners in the township to sign their easements for a beachfill project if they had not.

Mancini said the project needs to be completed in order to protect oceanfront homes and the homes that are behind them.

The Army Corps of Engineers is bringing in sand to place on beaches on the island where the project has been completed, and plans on bringing in a dredge to do more work on beaches, said township police Chief Michael Bradley.

One of the municipalities that received a beach replenishment project was Surf City in 2006-2007. Officials and homeowners there have said during the last week that they believed the multi-million project worked and protected homes and businesses from extreme damage during the storm.
